Cho Oyu, which translates as “Turquoise Goddess” in Tibetan, straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet at the Western edge of the mountainous Khumbu region, around 20km from Everest. Widely regarded as the easiest of the 8,000m peaks, Cho Oyu is often seen as a stepping stone to further conquests.

Climbing History and Success Rate

Historical data on climbs also points to Cho Oyu as a safer bet. The mountain has a higher success rate with comparatively fewer fatalities than Manaslu. This can be attributed to the less technical nature of the climb and more stable weather conditions typically found on Cho Oyu.

Annapurna Mountain is full of seracs, crevasses, sharp ridges, and other difficult elements. Needless to say, it's challenging, and even deadly to cross these sections of the mountains.
