The decision by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to delay the toll plan known as #congestionpricing — a proposal that drew ire and lawsuits from New Jersey officials — is being widely praised by elected officials in New Jersey, eager to celebrate a victory few saw coming. The first-in-the-country plan, which was scheduled to start June 30, would have charged drivers using E-ZPass as much as $15 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street.New York officials called it an effort to help the environment.New Jersey officials said it was a shameless money grab for the cash-strapped Metropolitan Transit Authority.Ultimately, the plan may have been killed because of concerns it would hurt New York Democrats this November.Read more:

From ROI-NJ's Military Mattes newsletter | For those who saw it on the Delaware River on March 21, it was a most extraordinary sight. The Battleship New Jersey, only slightly scarred from its five decades of service in the Navy, was again on the open water, the first time it had left its home on the Camden Waterfront in years. The New Jersey had no engine or steering capability, so its 888 feet and 45,000 tons was gently pushed and prodded down the river by a quartet of tugboats.“Big J,” as it was nicknamed by sailors, followed the guiding prompts of the tugboats into the Philadelphia Navy Yard and into Dry Dock No. 3 — the very same dock where the ship was built in 1941-42.While in dry dock, the New Jersey enjoyed a full maritime pampering. Its hull was cleaned of debris and marine biogrowth, required repairs were made and the cathodic protection system — which protects the immersed portion of the hull from corrosion — was updated.Marshall Spevak is the new CEO of the . He was officially named to the position May 2 after serving as interim CEO for the prior six months. As the work on the New Jersey finishes, Spevak wants to make sure it is ready for a new kind of battle — the battle for share-of-mind.Read more: https://lnkd.in/ghdWeMf2

From ROI-NJ's Print Edition: Danielle Barbera recounts meeting with a musician who struggled with a mix of depression, anxiety and alcoholism. When he sobered up, he felt that his creative drive and inspiration were amiss. It was deflating for him and his self-identity.As she does often when someone experiencing mental health challenges has — literally and figuratively — lost their voice, Barbera politely handed over a guitar. And, often, that’s all it takes.“I said, ‘Here, play whatever comes to mind for you,’ and he responded by playing his original songs,” she said. “I heard the power in his voice as his lyrics came to life again. After he was done playing, we just sat there in silence. He became emotional and expressed how ‘weird’ but liberating it was.”That musician went on to be discharged from Hackensack Meridian Health’s Carrier Clinic, where for this individual — and many others — a music-based patient-therapist rapport is proving to be a healing experience.Barbera is board-certified in music therapy, a field that Hackensack Meridian Health and other local organizations are trying out as a means of managing mental health disorders and mood disturbances.Read more: https://lnkd.in/ewh2ipVt
